DUAL CREDIT CLASSES WITH HCC
Dual Credit at SHS is a program that provides students an opportunity to take college courses based on a local agreement between SBISD and Houston Community College. Courses are taught at SHS by teachers who are also HCC Adjunct Professors. Students are concurrently enrolled in high school courses and college courses. These specific courses also meet Texas Essential Knowledge and Skill requirements for high school coursework.

What classes are offered as Dual Credit?

Is it possible that my SHS grade and HCC grade can differ?
YES! Your Dual Credit teacher is teaching and grading different assignment to meet different criteria for each entity. There might be a major research paper or project that must be included in the SHS grade to satisfy TEKS, but is not considered for HCC at all, and vice versa.
How much do I pay for Dual Credit classes?
Nothing! HCC does not charge tuition or out of district fees for dual credit students, but students will be responsible for purchasing textbooks and scantrons. They will be offered at a reduced cost based on financial need.
How do I apply for Dual Credit classes?
Complete the HCC online application and include the HCC ID and Dual Credit application found in your counselor's office or under the Resources tab of this website.

If you're not TSI exempt, you'll need to:
- Contact HCC for Assess College Readiness and prepare for placement testing
- Complete the HCC Pre-Assessment Activity and keep a copy for the TSI test administrator
- Attend a campus TSI testing session at SHS or test at the HCC Testing Center
- Secure a copy of test results and submit a copy of qualifying test results with the application, if taken at HCC
